A Clinical Observation on Gastrofiberscopic findings of the Stomach



Abstract
Gastrofiberscopic observation was performed to the patients who complained gastrintestinal symptoms.
Total 1932 cases were subjected to this study and the observation were performed between January 1979 and July 1983 in Department of Internal Medicine, Chung-Ang University hospital, Seoul Korea.
The results obtained were as follows:
1) 1161 cases(56.4%) of gastritis were noted on endoscopic observation which were consisted of 476 cases(40.9%) of superficial gastritis, 361 cases(31.2%) of atropic gastritis and 237 cases(20.4%) of erosive gastritis respectively.
Male to female ratio was not significantly different, but the occurence of gastritis was highest in 3 rd decade(27.0%).
2) 350 cases(16.9%) were diagnosed as benign gastric ulcer and most of them were single in number(62.3%) but 74 cases(21.2%) of multiple ulcer were also detected.
The endoscopic examinations revealed that the most frequent occurence site was antrum (41.8%) and male to female ratio was 2.1 : 1 and the highest number was in 5th decade.
3) 158 cases(7.7%) of gastric cancer were noted on endoscopic observation, male to female ratio was 2.1 : 1 and the occurence of gastric cancer increased progressively after 4th decade.
The most frequent type of gastric cancer was type III in Borrmann¢¥s classification (35.4%), and the most frequent occurence site was lesser curvature (36.1%).
